The flower paintings made famous by Dutch masters were something of a farce. In fact, it was uncommon for flowers to be displayed in the home, and the arrangements depicted in paintings were often of flowers not typically in bloom at the same time, so flowers were conveyed from other drawings. These flower paintings, made famous by women like Rachel Ruysch, ushered in the practice of setting out flower bouquets in the home, which is something we can all be grateful for. Click on the image to see it in its entirety.
