The Iris has inspired many cultures, and like the rose is connected to women. In Ancient Greece, the Goddess Iris was responsible for guiding women to Elysian Fields, so iris flowers were often painted on women's graves. Of of the flowers, they more resemble miniature humans, a fact Disney highlighted in one scene in its animated version of Alice in Wonderland. Click on the image to see it in its entirety.
