Roses pervade our culture so much so that we've lost touch with them. In fact, roses have been symbolic of some of our greatest female heroines like Aphrodite or Ishar, and later on the Madonna. Due to the rapid cultivation of roses over the last century, wherein traits like longer blooming periods and more bountiful petals were paramount, we've breed out the scent of roses. The 'Nootka' rose or Rosa nutkana, lacks the flamboyant blossom of common roses, but it more than makes up for what it lacks in show with its heady scent.
